It’s that time of year again – Father’s Day. A day that’s all about dad… or stepdad, grandad, and anyone else you’d like to celebrate.
With Father’s Day comes the annual struggle to find something creative to do for your dad and avoid buying the same gift as last year – socks and a crate of beer. This year, why not treat your dad to a delicious homemade meal, perhaps make him his favourite dish or whip up a sweet treat for him to enjoy?
Sunday dinner with a twist
If you fancy having a traditional Sunday dinner to celebrate dad this year, why not think outside the box and serve it up in a giant Yorkshire pudding? All you’ll need is the usual components of your roast dinner – a joint of beef, potatoes, carrots, and broccoli.
For the Yorkshire pudding, just crack two large eggs into a bowl, sift in the plain flour and whisk until smooth while slowly adding in the milk. Leave to chill, then when the dinner is ready to serve, pour the batter into a hot ovenproof frying pan and cook in the oven for 25 minutes. Serve up your dinner in the Yorkshire with plenty of gravy and you’re ready to go!
Beef and mustard pie
Let’s face it, most British dads love a classic steak pie. For your Father’s Day dinner, why not make these mini beef, mushroom and mustard pies for something a bit different? Packed with flavours of chestnut mushroom, mustard, onion and thyme, these individual steak pies have a delicious cheddar cheese pastry case and are best served with carrots and broccoli… and of course a smothering of gravy!
Lamb and mint kofta kebabs
For something a bit more lightweight this Father’s Day (fingers crossed for a sunny weekend!), why not give these refreshing lamb and mint kofta kebabs a go? Easy to make at home, these minced lamb meatballs only take 20 minutes to cook on the BBQ or in the oven and are served Greek-style on skewers. To complete the dish, serve with your dad’s favourite side salad with some couscous, roasted vegetables and a mint yoghurt dip.
Guinness chocolate pudding
Keen to make sure dad gets his usual supply of beer on Father’s Day this year? Why not make him this delicious Guinness chocolate pudding – with just five ingredients, this is perfect for a quick dessert on his special day. To serve, just add a dollop of clotted or thick double cream.
Which of these dishes will you be sharing with your dad on Father’s Day? We’d love to see the finished products, so please share them with us on social media.
